HOW TO CHANGE GEARS WITH ELECTRONIC PRECISION SHIFT IN YOUR CADILLAC LYRIQ

Difficulty Level: Intermediate |  Time Required: 5 Minutes  |  Tools Required: None  |  Related Parts, Products, Services or Technology: Electric Parking Brake, Electronic Precision Shift, Buttons, Electronic Precision Shift, Lever

Electronic Precision Shift replaces a traditional gearshift with an electronic system that makes shifting gears easier.

This feature may work differently, depending on your vehicle, so see your Owner’s Manual for details.

HOW IT WORKS

The Electronic Precision Shift (EPS) system on your Cadillac LYRIQ comes in the form of a stalk-type shifting lever. This stalk is mounted behind your steering wheel on the right side. There’s a dedicated PARK (“P”) button at the tip of the stalk.

Your vehicle must be ON to use this feature.

If you have a push-/pull-button system, use these instructions instead.

If you have an electronic lever that looks like a joystick on your center console, use these instructions instead.

Here’s how to shift gears with the steering-column-mounted stalk:

Shift Into PARK:

Press the brake pedal and come to a complete stop. Press the “P” button on the tip of the stalk. The “P” will light up red.

Shift Into DRIVE:

Press the brake pedal. Pull the stalk toward you, then down for “D.” When the “D” lights up red, release the stalk.

Shift Into REVERSE:

Press the brake pedal. Pull the stalk toward you, then up for “R.” When the “R” lights up red, release the stalk.

Shift Into NEUTRAL:

Press the brake pedal. Pull the stalk toward you and briefly hold. When the “N” lights up red, release the stalk.

If you shut off your vehicle when you are stopped and not in PARK, it will automatically shift to PARK.

Q&As

HOW DO I USE ELECTRONIC PRECISION SHIFT (EPS) IN A CAR WASH?

Car Wash Mode allows the vehicle to remain in NEUTRAL for use in an automatic car wash. To remain in the vehicle during Car Wash Mode, press the brake pedal at the entrance to the car wash. Shift to NEUTRAL, then release the brake pedal. The indicator should continue to show “N.” If it does not, repeat these steps until it does. When the indicator shows “N” continuously, the vehicle is ready for the car wash.

To use a car wash that requires the driver to be out of the vehicle, press the brake pedal, open the door and shift to NEUTRAL. The indicator should continue to show “N.” If it does not, repeat these steps until it does. Once the indicator shows “N” continuously, you can exit the vehicle and close the door. The vehicle is now ready for the car wash. It may automatically shift to PARK upon re-entry.
