ACCESS ETRUNKâ„¢ HANDS-FREE
If equipped, the Power Hood provides convenient access to the eTrunkâ„¢. Some vehicles have a hands-free function for the Power Hood, allowing it to open on approach with the key fob.
Activating a Power Hood opening on approach (if equipped):
If equipped and enabled, the hood may be opened, hands-free, by directly approaching it from farther than 10 feet away (approximately 3 meters) with your key fob.
Before using the hands-free function:
- Make sure the vehicle is in PARK.
- Turn the eTrunkâ„¢ Power Hood on by selecting: Vehicle Settings > Comfort and Convenience > Power Hood Opening, then choosing: Maximum or Custom.
- Enable the hands-free function in the vehicle’s settings: Vehicle Settings > Comfort and Convenience > Hands-Free Exterior Storage Access > Open Only.
Opening the hood hands-free:
- Upon directly approaching the front of the vehicle*, the key fob activates the Power Hood within 3 feet (approximately 1 meter) of it.
- If the key fob remains in that area for several seconds, the hood will prepare to open, signaled by a chime and multiple exterior light flashes.
- Then, unless cancelled, the hood will fully open. Cancel by:
- Using the Hood Open button (single press) on the key fob.
- Using the exterior eTrunkâ„¢ touchpad.
- Stepping out of the area within 3 feet (approximately 1 meter) of the hood for more than a few seconds.
*Approaching from the rear or sides of the vehicle with the key fob will not activate the hands-free function of the Power Hood.
Circumstances needed for hands-free function:
- The feature is set to Open Only in the vehicle’s Settings menu.
- The vehicle has sufficient battery power.
- The Power Hood is set to Maximum or Custom.
- A remote key is not detected inside the vehicle.
- The vehicle is in PARK.
- The vehicle has not been parked for several days, with no remote key use or Keyless Access operation. (To re-enable if this does occur, press any button on the remote key or open and close any vehicle door.)
Disabling/re-enabling the hands-free function of the Power Hood:
Use the customization settings in the center display to turn the feature off or on:
- Off: Select Settings > Vehicle > Comfort and Convenience > Hands-Free Exterior Storage Access > Off.
- On: Select Settings > Vehicle > Comfort and Convenience > Hands-Free Exterior Storage Access > Open Only.
The hands-free function of the Power Hood may become disabled:
- After successfully opening the eTrunkâ„¢ using the hands-free feature.
- If the key fob directly approaches the front of the vehicle from farther than 10 feet away (approximately 3 meters) but does not move within 3 feet (1 meter) of the hood in a short period of time.
- If the user has cancelled the feature (see Step 3 for ways to cancel).
- If the Power Hood is set to Off (instead of Maximum or Custom) in Settings.
Note: Always check to make sure the path of the Power Hood is clear of obstructions such as people, tools and snow before operating.
Warning: You or others could be injured if caught in the path of the Power Hood. Always supervise the operation of the Power Hood until it is fully opened or closed and keep hands and other body parts away from the hood when in use.
Note: To avoid personal injury or death, always keep the hood fully closed and latched when storing the vehicle. Do not leave the vehicle unattended when the hood is open. Never allow anyone, whether adults or children, to climb inside the eTrunkâ„¢.
